LUIS A. CERVANTES is a lawyer graduated from Escuela Libre de Derecho (1980). Quite young, he became a partner at Santamarina y Steta, S.C. He spent a couple of years at Jáuregui y Navarrete, S.C. In 2001 he founded Cervantes Sainz, S.C., where he currently practices law.

Professional Experience

Mr. Cervantes’ successful career and practice include Mexico’s major litigation cases and legal disputes in recent decades, with extensive activity and a special focus on corporate, securities, commercial and bankruptcy litigation, including contentious cases in antitrust and comparative advertising. For over thirty years he has had impeccable experience in corporate and finance and aviation and maritime law, as well as in foreign investment matters. Mr. Cervantes’ practice emphasizes as well on bankruptcy law, sophisticated shareholders’ disputes, minority shareholders’ rights in public and private corporations, and practical aspects of corporate governance. He also advises in family law litigation, as well as prenuptial and estate planning; real estate disputes and contractual matters.

Mr. Cervantes is currently a member of the Board of Directors of several public and private, domestic and foreign, companies, including Grupo Dixon S.A. de C.V., Frontera Copper Corporation, and Grupo Financiero Mifel S.A. de C.V.

Over the past three decades, Mr. Cervantes has been a Law Professor which courses include Mercantile Corporations, Commercial Law, Credit Instruments and Transactions and Foreign Investment, both at Universidad Anáhuac and Universidad Iberoamericana. He is currently Professor of Commercial Law and Foreign Investment Law at Escuela Libre de Derecho, in law school and postgraduate programs. He is an active member of the Mexican Bar Association (Barra Mexicana de Abogados), the Illustrious Mexican School of Lawyers (Ilustre y Nacional Colegio de Abogados de México), the Mexican Association of Corporate Lawyers (Asociación Nacional de Abogados de Empresa), the Mexican Institute of Mediation (Instituto Mexicano de la Mediación), and the International Bar Association.
