Alessandri and MAS Analytics Organize Second Meeting on patient data and Intelligence in the Healthcare Industry

August 13, 2024

Alessandri - The second meeting on "Patient Data and Intelligence in the Healthcare Industry", organized by Alessandri Abogados and MAS Analytics, was held with great success. The event once again brought together executives and professionals from clinics, medical centers, laboratories, and sector suppliers to delve into crucial topics such as patient data governance and protection, the challenges of clinical record interoperability, and how to derive business value from data.

Macarena Gatica, a partner at Alessandri, and Augusto Miquel, founding partner of MAS Analytics, led the presentations, beginning with a detailed analysis of the importance of understanding and adapting to regulatory changes in the healthcare area. "It is essential for organizations to be aware of new regulations, as they can imply substantial changes in the way services are provided, in addition to requiring a significant allocation of resources", noted the lawyer.

Among the regulations discussed was the recent publication of the Clinical Record Interoperability Law and the Personal Data Law project, which concluded its proceedings in the joint committee and will soon become law.

During the session, the challenges associated with the interoperability of clinical records, a critical issue for the sector, were addressed. Augusto Miquel emphasized the need to establish clear standards and require their compliance during bidding processes, ensuring that all systems can communicate effectively.

Another key point was the analysis of deriving business value from data. The speakers stressed that, with proper management and robust data governance, organizations can improve their operational efficiency and make more informed decisions. The opportunities presented by new regulations, such as the Cybersecurity Framework Law, were also discussed to strengthen data protection and mitigate risks.

During the Q&A session, one of the guests raised a concern about suppliers: "What happens if my suppliers do not meet the same standards required by the law?"

Macarena Gatica highlighted the importance of having policies and protocols that ensure the suitability of suppliers. "Companies must establish clear criteria for evaluating and hiring services, ensuring that their suppliers also comply with the required regulations. This approach not only protects the main institution but also ensures a safe and reliable supply chain", she emphasized.

In conclusion, this second event organized by Alessandri Abogados and MAS Analytics not only allowed attendees to update themselves on regulatory changes and current challenges in patient data protection but also provided them with tools and strategies to adapt to this new regulatory environment. Collaboration and knowledge exchange at events like this are critical to advancing towards more secure and efficient data management in the healthcare industry.
