CIAM-CIAR brings together the elite of Ibero-American international arbitration in Madrid
More than 200 experts and professionals gathered at the Palacio de Santoña in Madrid for the 3rd Meeting of the Working Groups of the Madrid International Arbitration Center - Ibero-American Arbitration Center (CIAM-CIAR), a key event to discuss the present and future of international arbitration from the perspective of end users.
The event was opened by authorities such as Susana Sumelzo, Secretary of State for Iberoamerica and the Caribbean and Spanish in the World; Daniel Rodríguez Asensio, Deputy Minister of Economy and Employment of the Community of Madrid; and Inmaculada Sánchez-Cervera, General Coordinator of the Mayor’s Office of the Madrid City Council, who highlighted the role of Spanish as a language of arbitration and the potential of Madrid as an international seat for dispute resolution.
During the event, the recent signing of the agreement between CIAM-CIAR and the Arbitration and Mediation Center (CAM Santiago) of the Chamber of Commerce of Santiago de Chile was presented. Representatives of both institutions stressed that this alliance was a milestone in the consolidation of international arbitration with an Ibero-American approach, based on shared principles such as transparency, digitalization and sustainability.
The president of CIAM-CIAR, José María Alonso, highlighted the flexibility of arbitration and the essential role of the Working Groups, while Adolfo Díaz-Ambrona, president of the Association for International Arbitration, highlighted the evolution of CIAM-CIAR as a court of reference in the region. Enrique Gil Botero, secretary general of the Conference of Ministers of Justice of Ibero-American Countries, stressed the importance of legal certainty in attracting foreign investment.
The event was also attended by Ángel Asensio, president of the Madrid Chamber of Commerce, who recalled the more than 30 years of promotion of arbitration in the capital.
During May 30 and 31, specialized working tables were held in sectors such as energy, sports and entertainment, construction, digital economy, insurance, arbitration with States, among others. With this, CIAM-CIAR reinforced its commitment to act as a bridge between experts and strategic sectors.
The event had the main sponsorship of firms such as RBB Economics, Banco Santander, Howden and Martínez Quintero Mendoza González Laguado & De la Rosa, as well as the institutional support of the Madrid City Council and other entities of the arbitration and business sector.
