José Evenor is a partner and chairman of Consortium Legal. He has more than 50 years of experience in the banking and finance, telecommunications, mining and retail sectors. He has acted as local counsel to major domestic and international companies, including Wal-Mart, General Electric, Sony, Caterpillar, Phillip Morris, Citi, GE Finance and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE), Movistar and Enitel (now Claro). He is Honorary Consul of Great Britain and Honorary Consul of Sweden. He has chaired service organizations including Unirse (Nicaraguan Union for Corporate Social Responsibility) and Teletón (which supports children with disabilities).
In 2014, Chambers & Partners awarded him its Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his exceptional career as a lawyer in the Americas.
His experience includes providing legal services to the Nicaraguan government in negotiations on external debt with major commercial banks, the IDB, the World Bank and the IMF, as well as the Paris Club. He has served as president of the Central Bank of Nicaragua and Inversiones Financieras. He has also served on the board of the Superintendency of Banks and Financial Institutions.
