Prieto appoints Romina Garrido to lead the area of Personal Data Protection



In view of the imminent enactment of the Personal Data Protection Law - currently in its third constitutional procedure - Prieto has hired Romina Garrido, a leading expert in the area of personal data protection and ethics, with almost 20 years of experience in the public and private sectors.  

"I have specialized in personal data protection since 2008, advising public and private organizations in the health sector, transportation, telecommunications, scientific research and retail companies. My experience includes data management strategies, technology implementation, data driven projects, data transfer contracts and impact assessments, among other activities", explains the new Director of Prieto, who leads the Data Protection area.

Romina obtained her Law degree at the University of Valparaiso and holds a Master’s degree in Law and New Technologies from the University of Chile. In governmental matters, she has been a legislative advisor to the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications, in charge of processing bills in the National Congress. She advised the Ministry of Health on technological contracting and data protection issues. She is part of the Legal Council of the Digital Government Division of the General Secretariat of the Presidency (SEGPRES) and led the sub-division of responsibility and biases convened by the Future Challenges Commission of the Senate. At the international level, she participates in the Ibero-American Data Protection Network and was recognized by WOMCY as one of the 50 outstanding women in cybersecurity in Latin America.

In the academic field, she is a professor of the Cybersecurity Diploma of the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Chile; of the Master in Medical Informatics of the same university. Additionally, she teaches Data Ethics at the Business School and in the GobLab Diploma of the Adolfo Ibáñez University and the Master in Digital Business of the Diego Portales University.
