Pérez-Llorca and González Calvillo complete their merger
Pérez-Llorca and González Calvillo have completed the merger announced last April, following a favourable vote by the partners of both firms and the receipt of the relevant administrative approvals required for this type of transaction.
With this merger, Pérez-Llorca will become one of the largest law firms in Mexico, with an initial platform of 100 lawyers and around 160 professionals spread across its offices in Mexico City and Monterrey.
The partners of González Calvillo will become part of the Pérez-Llorca partnership in an integration that represents the first cross-border merger between a leading Iberian law firm and a top-tier Mexican practice.
The two firms have worked together for clients around the world for the past 20 years, so this transaction follows a strong relationship.
The project aims to create the leading law firm in Mexico, serving clients on both sides of the Atlantic, large multinationals and financial sponsors, as well as other international law firms.
The aim of this integration is to create the first law firm in Mexico with a benchmark position in major transactions, financings, cross-border litigation and regulatory matters, offering a comprehensive service to clients on both sides of the Atlantic, large multinationals and financial sponsors, as well as other international law firms. To this end, a major investment strategy will be implemented and the necessary financial resources will be allocated to strengthen the Mexican teams and continue the expansion of the practice.
As a result, the firm will be able to offer the most comprehensive and high-quality legal services in Spanish, Portuguese, European and Mexican law worldwide from its offices in Barcelona, Brussels, Mexico City, Lisbon, London, Madrid, Monterrey, New York and Singapore, where nearly 500 lawyers and a total of 800 professionals will work.
Pérez-Llorca’s global pro forma sales for the last 12 months, including its Mexican operations, are estimated at USD 160 million.
In addition to being the two largest Spanish-speaking economies, Mexico and Spain share strong cultural ties and a high degree of integration between their business communities, making it a natural market for the firm to continue to grow and develop.
"We believe that the strong and sophisticated Mexican legal industry will continue to develop, grow and consolidate in the coming years, and we believe that we have the willingness and ability to contribute positively and significantly to this process," said Pedro Pérez-Llorca, Managing Partner of Pérez-Llorca, following the completion of this integration.
"The merger with Pérez-Llorca makes us the largest Latin American law firm, which will allow us to serve our clients on both sides of the Atlantic and strengthen our close relationships with the most important law firms in the United States, Europe and Latin America," said Enrique González Calvillo, founding partner of González Calvillo.
According to Rodrigo Rojas, partner of González Calvillo, "our integration represents a milestone in the Mexican legal market and puts us in a unique and solid position to offer our Mexican and foreign clients top-quality legal services through our offices around the world".
Iván Delgado, international managing partner of Pérez-Llorca, emphasised that "this merger makes us stronger and more competitive to face the complex challenges of an increasingly internationalised legal market, where transactions and disputes transcend the borders of their countries of origin".
