Margarita Romero joins PBP as IP Partner  

Pérez Bustamante & Ponce has announced the incorporation of Margarita Romero Rosales as partner in the intellectual property practice. Her arrival strengthens the leadership and experience of the IP team at the Firm.

Margarita graduated as a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Universidad Católica del Ecuador, has an LL.M. in Intellectual Property from Universidad de Alicante in Spain and a Postgraduate Certificate in Commercial Law from the Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar in Quito.

With over 25 years of experience running her own practice, Margarita has specialized in managing the trademark portfolios of local and international clients in Ecuador. Her advice covers regulatory issues in various industries, consumer protection, advertising law, franchise agreements and others related to the commercialization of intellectual property.

As part of her strong and active participation with the different associations of IP professionals, INTA (International Trademark Association) has appointed her as co-chair of the Global Advisory Council for Latin America and the Caribbean (GAC) and member of the Professional Development Committee for the 2022-2023 period. In ASIPI (Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property), in addition to being the leader of the Patent Committee, she has been appointed as the sole representative to the WIPO Standing Committee on Patents SCP/35 in Geneva for 2023. She is also an active member of ECTA (European Communities Trademark Association) at the European level.

Along with Margarita’s incorporation, Samantha Maldonado, who has ten years of experience in the area, has also joined the team as Senior Associate.
