Chinese Law Firm DHH Opens Two Mexico Offices, Forming GRA DHH Abogados

Chinese law firm DHH has established its first physical presence in Latin America by launching two new offices in Monterrey and Mexico City in cooperation with local firm Gonzalez Rodriguez Abogados (GRA), creating the combined practice GRA DHH Abogados.

Headquartered in Beijing, DHH has 41 offices in mainland China alone, alongside international branches spanning Hong Kong, Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Mongolia, Singapore, Austria, Germany, Spain, Russia, Canada, the UK and the U.S. The Mexican additions represent the firm’s debut in the region, with further expansion on its roadmap.

The two new offices are managed by Luis González Sánchez and Hector Rodriguez Ramirez, who divide their time between Monterrey and Mexico City. Luis González Sánchez leads the transactional-commercial practice, while Hector Rodriguez Ramirez directs litigation and contentious matters.

The partnership discussions commenced around October 2024, followed by leadership visits in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Ningbo, and Mexico. The teams met clients together and co-hosted a seminar on the Mexico-China Investment Corridor, gathering local authorities and industry specialists to analyze bilateral investment dynamics.

González Sánchez told Latin Counsel that manufacturing clients entering Mexico will be a primary focus, noting robust activity across the automotive sector, particularly electric vehicles. Beyond standard legal and commercial advice, he emphasized that the firm’s core value lies in cultural alignment: "China and Mexico have very different cultures. We help our clients adapt to our country’s mindset".

Looking ahead, GRA DHH plans to leverage its new platform to assist Chinese enterprises across broader Latin American jurisdictions. While inbound interest from Chinese companies currently outpaces the reverse, the firm also continues to support Latin American entities operating in China.

Since Latin Counsel launched its China Desk earlier this year, law firms across more than seven Latin American jurisdictions have expressed increasing interest in exploring strategic collaboration with their Chinese peers. DHH stands out among the first to bridge the 12,000-kilometer divide with a permanent local footprint.
