December 10, 2025

Marval O’Farrell Mairal - At the Annual General Meeting held on 9 December 2025, the partners of Marval O’Farrell Mairal appointed Gustavo Giay as the new chairman of its Board of Directors.

Gustavo is a lawyer who graduated from the University of Buenos Aires and holds a postgraduate degree from Northwestern University in Chicago, United States. He has been a partner since 2003 and currently co-leads the Trademarks, Technology and Intellectual Property and Telecoms, Media and Technology (TMT) departments.

With an innovative profile, in-depth knowledge of law and an entrepreneurial spirit, recognised both at home and abroad, Gustavo has solid experience in team leadership and has led the firm’s innovation initiatives in recent years, positioning Marval as a leading law firm in the provision of technology-related legal services. Previously, he was a member of its Executive Committee and a member of the Board of Directors.

His appointment comes at a time of significant change in the profession. It represents a strategic and timely decision to accompany these changes, bring a fresh perspective and consolidate Marval’s leadership in an increasingly challenging environment. With this decision, the firm reaffirms its commitment to innovation, professional excellence and adaptation to new market demands.

Gustavo will succeed Santiago Carregal, whose leadership marked a key stage for the firm. During his tenure, Marval celebrated its centenary, drove sustained growth in its practice areas, strengthened its international positioning, promoted diversity, and carried out a profound technological and organisational transformation. His vision, commitment and leadership skills leave behind an enormous legacy.

In this regard, Santiago Carregal stated: "It has been a real privilege to lead the firm over the last eight years. I am leaving the position in the best hands. Gustavo is the right person to lead Marval at this time of profound change. His training, vision and strategic thinking, human warmth, knowledge of technology, and internal and external recognition will be fundamental in continuing to build the Marval of the future and ensuring its leadership both in the country and in the region."

For his part, Gustavo Giay stated: "It is an honour to assume the position of president of the firm and succeed Santiago, whom I thank for his extraordinary leadership. I also thank my partners for their trust. I take on this challenge with great energy and with the conviction that, together with them and the firm’s professionals and collaborators, we will build the Marval of the future: a firm that evolves, adapts and continues to lead, always faithful to the values that distinguish us."

This will be the sixth leadership transition at Marval O’Farrell Mairal, demonstrating the firm’s institutional strength, which currently has 68 partners, 313 solicitors and more than 600 employees.
